I Am Going To Be A Mother

I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant with my boyfriend Hravn’s baby, and today had my first ultrasound. Up until now, I haven’t really been able to believe that there was anything in there, because my stomach is still relatively flat and I’ve had minimal morning sickness. (Guess I’m one of the really fucking lucky ones, huh?)

Thankfully though, the ultrasound proved otherwise, and there is, indeed, a little baby, about the size of a pine cone, hanging around in my womb. Part of me had been expecting to see nothing. Part of me was expecting that the midwife would turn to me with a face full of tragedy, and explain in a soft voice that I’d been living with a phantom pregnancy.

The little pine cone must have known it was being watched, because it danced for us. To describe the feeling, well, I’m going to need to write a poem to express myself properly.

Anyway, there will be a new focus on being pregnant and becoming a parent, among all the other (un)usual stuff I write about. Wyrd Words & Effigies has, since its beginning in 2013, been a blog that I tailor to my life and where it’s at at any given moment. I hope this is okay with you folks.

If you have any suggestions, any tips, anything at all you’d like to say, please start a conversation. My ears are bat like and open.

  1. That is great news! Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of motherhood! Keep us/me informed! I am looking forward to how things go for you. My one and only is now 27 but I loved him from the moment I found out!
